We’ve delivered balloons to a number of children’s parties over the years at Balloon Works and picked up quite a few tips from parents as a result.

One thing we do know is, there’s a knack to creating the ultimate party bag and we want to share those tips with you in this latest blog.

The secret to a successful party bag is…

Match the theme

Pick bags that coordinate with the party theme. Choose colours that match napkins, paper plates, bunting and banners, the bag should look good and be a souvenir of the big day.

Whatever the theme is, make sure the party bag reflects the style.

Personalise each bag

Kids love to feel special. Have a list of names for every child that is coming to the party and write their name on the bag.

Keep a few bags spare for last-minute arrivals. You can always jot a name down quickly if guests decide to turn up that previously declined the invite.

Pick the contents with care

One of the hardest parts of organising party bags is deciding what to put inside. Balloons are a good suggestion. Kids love blowing up balloons, deflating them, tying them up and bouncing them around the house.

Other suggestions include:

  • Small toys
  • Fake Jewellery
  • Sweets or chocolate
  • Bouncy balls
  • Yo-yos
  • Stickers
  • Bubbles
  • Notepads/pencils/crayons
  • Beads and bangles

Save some room for cake

Getting the right size of party bag is important if you want to include cake. Many a good party bag is ruined by trying to squeeze a slice of birthday cake inside.

Work out the dimensions beforehand.

Decide what you are going to place inside the party bag and try to leave enough space for a slice of cake. If there’s not enough room, maybe leave the cake out altogether, you can always send children home with a party bag and a slice of cake separately.

Have fun planning those party bags and don’t forget the balloons!
